Test Report No 1 |
In cooperation with one of the leading companies in the German paint industry, work has started on a test programme designed to investigate the performance of corrosion control systems based on the Organic Metal ORMECON®.
The test basically uses high-performance systems by this manufacturer, consisting of primer and top coat (in some cases with an intermediate layer as well). In each case two-component acrylic, epoxy and polyurethane products are used.
The study is intended to ascertain the influence of substituting a CORRPASSIV® primer for the standard primer. It also compares the CORRPASSIV® systems of Ormecon Chemie (likewise consisting of CORRPASSIV® Primer and a topcoat, in some cases with an intermediate coat) with those of the paint manufacturer.
The coating systems were applied to St-14 test plates that had been sandblasted (SA 2 ½) and degreased.
Results:
High-grade standard industrial system after 1765 hours in the VDA alternating test 621-415:

| Fig. 1: Corrosive attack in the scratch with marked under-film creep corrosion and formation of blisters on both sides of the injury site - clear signs of detachment |
Fig. 2: The coating is easily removed in the region of the under-film creep corrosion to reveal massive corrosion products |
By contrast, the CORRPASSIV® system, also after 1765 hours of the VDA alternating test 621-415.

| Fig. 3: Corrosion attack in scratch with marked formation of corrosion products. These however remain confined to the immediate vicinity of the injury site - there is no sign of any under-film creep. |
Fig. 4: Here too it is possible to remove the (top) coating - but only by force. Under it, however, the primer is intact. There is no sign of any corrosion attack. |
