Application: Steel supports of a pipeline gantry on the industrial site of Hydro Agri Brunsbüttel GmbH

Refurbishing steel supports in a chemicals plant with CORRPASSIV® 4903

Owing to the aggressive industrial atmosphere at Hydro Agri GmbH, heavy corrosion damage is sustained by elements such as the steel supports of pipeline gantries (Photo 2). To ensure their resistance to water, impact and abrasion despite continuous exposure to atmospheric stresses, they are maintained by derusting and applying an anticorrosion coating system at intervals of about five years.

The corroded steel supports (visible in Photo 2) were completely derusted by sandblasting with blast-furnace grit in accordance with SA 2 ®. The sandblasted areas were first treated with CORRPASSIV® primer to ennoble and passivate the surface.

After a short drying time an intermediate coat of the systemÆs two-component epoxy coating was applied. This was followed after several daysÆ curing time by a topcoat of the gloss-retaining two-component polyurethane coating which is also part of the system and is available on request in several colours. The colour used here was specified by Hydro Agri.
