As part of the business delegation, Dr. Bernhard Wessling joined Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder visiting China

Though the program has been very tight, the visit offered several chances to discuss possible economic activities of Ormecon in China. The industry and business delegation also visited the mayor of Beijing, who presented the project of his town in preparation of the Olympics in 2008. The German industry, represented by spokesman Heinrich v. Pierer (Siemens CEO) explained their interests in supplying to the Olympics. Chancellor Schroeder handed a list of products which would be preferred to be delivered in preparation of this occasion to Prime Minister Zhu Rongji.

In this list,  Ormecon is represented with the new anti-corrosion systems CORRPASSIV which has proven to be extremely efficient on steel constructions. It is based on the new active component Polyaniline, the Organic Metal.

Ormecon is preparing to produce these products also in China, here by a Joint Venture. During the visit, there have been two meetings of several hours for negotiation with the potential Chinese partners. These have shown very significant positive results, the signatures under contracts are expected to be possible within the next 6 months. It was agreed that CORRPASSIV will be sampled to China for several actual industrial test projects.

During a meeting with the Chinese Minister of Foreign Trade, a topic brought up by Ormecon was discussed: the lack of effective protection of intellectual property and patents in China. As v. Pierer expressed, big companies also have these problems, but they can defend themselves somehow, but small and medium companies can't. The Minister agreed to bring this topic to the "joint commission".

The program allowed many bilateral talks between CEO's of multinational companies and Ormecon's president. The topics  have been possible joint interests in marketing or use of Ormecon's Organic Metal, as well in Germany as in China.

As a gift,  Dr. Wessling handed a CD-ROM to the Prime Minister Zhu Rongji and the Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, which he had prepared for them: resulting from his volunteer work in international crane research, protection and reintroduction, it is containing a powerpoint presentation, featuring 4 crane species, which live in Germany, China, and US, resp. In International projects, partially under the UN convention on Migratory Species, they are protected and reintroduced. In this CD, cranes - which play a significant role in the Chinese culture - are presented as a symbol for freedom and peace, also in the light of the actual political situation and considering they are migrating and wintering in countries like Afghanistan, Tajikistan, India, Pakistan and Iran.
