At the Hannover Fair 1998 (hall 5, booth F22) Ormecon Chemie GmbH will present "Organic Metals" and their utilization for corrosion protection purposes. Organic Metals are a new materials class: They are synthetic organic substances yet having metallic properties. AND they are almost as noble as silver.
CORRPASSIV® coatings, based on a perfect dispersion of the Organic Metal, ennoble and passivate metal surfaces with a totally new and unique reaction mechanism. Steel, aluminum, magnesium and their alloys, even copper can be protected.
The life of metal parts can be extended by a factor of 5, when protected with CORRPASSIV®. These coating systems consist of a Primer, based on the Organic Metal, intermediate coating if applicable, and a sealing top coat. Both are perfectly compatible with the Primer. The development of different coating systems has been supported by the "Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt" (German Federal Foundation for the Environment) in 1995 to 1997. The new technology has been discovered by the middle sized company Zipperling Kessler & Co. 1993*. in 1993 after many years of basic research on Organic Metals. After working out the basic technology, the company has developed several coating systems for practical application in a short period of time. All of them have proven their potential in various practical tests.
Various objects have been coated in the meantime, e.g. a pipeline, different industrial sites (chemical plants), constructions in waste water systems, biological filters, agricultural objects, bridges, boats and ships. The new CORRPASSIV® corrosion protection systems are extremely effective in aggressive corrosion environment. A first conventional dip coating system for bulk goods is actually being tested on serial production parts by a big German automotive company.

Light structural metals like Magnesium and its alloys for use in automotive construction can be successfully passivated and ennobled by CORRPASSIV. Conventional corrosion protection coatings are mainly showing no effect. The pictures show a gear housing part (front and rear side) after a salt spray test without any top coat (the reason for the colour change) - and only a slight corrosion attack. |

Ormecon is developing further CORRPASSIV® systems, including a heat curing system for bulk goods, coatings for light metals (especially for the automotive industry), powder coatings and products for continuous coil coating applications. A water-based system is also under development.

* Ormecon Chemie GmbH & Co. KG is a 100% subsidiary company of Zipperling Kessler & Co. It has been founded in 1996. In July 1996 Zipperling sold it's basic production business (polymer compounds and concentrates), to finance further research and the market introduction of Organic Metals by Ormecon. Zipperling is financed by 4 private investors, including its president Dr. Bernhard Wessling. Organic Metals are also known as "conductive polymers". The worldwide single manufacturer is Ormecon Chemie (Zipperling). Besides corrosion protection the Organic Metal ORMECON® can also be used in the manufacturing process of printed circuit boards (here: a new solderable surface finish).
