| Project: Island 2 Test: outside weathering test in the port Njaršvik, Island time: 8 months (being continued) |
|
The samples had been fixed in autumn 1996 in the port bassin in Njaršvik at the water line (the average water heighth between high and low water). It is there, where steadily changing conditions between salty wet, aerosols, and dry conditions are present, just like on a ship.

Photo 2A und 2B are showing the front side and the back side of a sample, which was coated with a standard system commercially being used for coating of ships, consisting of an Epoxy-primer and an EP-top coat (together ca. 320µm.
Both sides are showing strong blistering along the scatches after 8 months of corrosion attack including one winter period.

The CORRPASSIVTM system on the other side (photos 7A and 7B), present themselves being unchanged by these severe corrosiom attacks. Neither along the scratches, nor on the other surfaces are any corrosion products to be seen..
Skippers CORRPASSIVTM being tested here consists of a primer, a 2K-EP inter primer and a 2K-PU top coat. It is important to be mentioned when interpreting these results, that the whole coating thickness of all coats together is no more than 180 µm in this test, which would normally been considered as too low by experts in the area - but nevertheless, in spite of the reduction of coating thickness by about 44% a much better corrosion test result!
