A6. Other Applications

There will be many more industrial applications in the future, as soon as the new useful property combinations of Organic Metals, especially Polyaniline, are broader known, and more confidence has been built in the market based on the first pioneering applications. There might come sensors, actuators, or gas separation membranes, or even totally other ones, which we even cannot imagine until now.

However, also these potential applications are actually not seriously approached, even though their principal feasibility has been shown. It seems, that industrial development groups refrain from working with PAni as long as they are conceptually and mentally biased towards either a direct polymerization approach or a “solution” technique. Both sensors and gas separation membranes would need a reproducible technology for applying PAni on the substrate. As long as the dispersion concept is still disregarded and the “solution” paradigm is still preferred - however without a concise theoretical picture and without opening commercially practical routes - the necessary worldwide broad and competitive work will be retarded.
